Maria Salome Velez

My name is Maria Salome Velez. I am originally from Chicago, Illinois, and moved to northeast Tennessee approximately 20 years ago. I am a graduate of both undergraduate and graduate studies from East Tennessee State University. I have a broad and extensive background in child welfare, crisis management, stabilization, and more recently working with unaccompanied youth. I am a bilingual therapist and speak Spanish fluently. I am familiar with and have used the following approaches when working with clients, Psychodynamic, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Strengths-Based. I am a strong believer that people have the ability to change. I appreciate the opportunity when clients trust me and allow me to walk with them in their journey to recovery and wellness. When working with clients I take a comprehensive approach to addressing concerns and implementing interventions, building skills, and developing long-term changes. My journey has taught me that people need a combination of the right professional help with compassion, understanding, and commitment to make it the most meaningful and effective process.
