My name is Maria Salome Velez. I am originally from Chicago, Illinois and moved to northeast Tennessee approximately 20 years ago. I am a graduate for both undergraduate and graduate studies from East Tennessee State University. I have a broad and extensive background in child welfare, crisis management/stabilization and more recently working with unaccompanied youth. I am a bilingual therapist and speak Spanish fluently. I am familiar and have used the following approaches when working with clients, Psychodynamic, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Strengths Based. I am a strong believer that people have the ability to change.
I appreciate the opportunity when clients trust me and allow me to walk with them in their journey to recovery and wellness. When working with clients I take a comprehensive approach in addressing concerns and implementing interventions, building skills and developing long term changes.
My journey has taught me that people need a combination of the right professional help with the compassion, understanding and commitment to make it the most meaningful and effective process.
